When leaving San Jose for Quepos you can fly by 2 different airlines One has flights for around $49 each way in low season, or the other which sometimes has specials as low as $28 per person.
For the budget traveler you might want to take the bus. It costs about $7 for the 3-4 hour trip to Quepos. It sounds cheap but when you factor in the $10-25 taxi ride to the Coca-Cola terminal in San Jose and the 3-4 hours of waiting around for the bus, it seems cheaper to fly or hire a van to share the costs.
A shuttle bus can pick you up at the airport and take you all the way to your hotel in Quepos for around $180 for up to 12 passengers.
To Jaco expect to pay around $140
To Puerto Viejo you might pay as much as $200
Then there's always the rental car. You can expect to pay about $50 per day for a car with all of the taxes and insurance necessary. Gas prices are around $4.50 per gallon.
